Weapons seizures hint at sinister terror plot in J&K

Weapons seizures hint at sinister terror plot in J&K

The recovery of a unusually large number of pistols and more than a dozen Army pattern camouflage uniforms from terrorists in three recent attacks in north Kashmir has the Army and the other security agencies worried.
A cache of 66 pistols - both 9mm and 7.62mm - and a huge amount of ammunition appear to indicate a change in strategy.

"Of late, we have noticed that while there are a few AK series rifles, more pistols and their magazines and ammunition are being brought in by infiltrators," an officer said.
The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps has concluded that more pistols are being brought in with an eye on the state and general elections.

"Pistols can be conveniently hidden and can be used with relative ease and secrecy (to target leaders) during political rallies," a source said.
In the daring twin attack on a police station and an Army camp in Samba on September 26, the terrorists had used Army uniforms.
"This indicates that either the terrorists will attack security forces dressed in these fatigues to avoid detection or they will target civilians and securitymen will be blamed," an officer said.
