Keran ops: Pakistan's real objective is a much deeper plan to spread terror in 2014

Pakistan's Keran incursion is a part of larger game plan to dump weapons, ammunition and other war like stores in Jammu and Kashmir for the bigger 'terror operations' in 2014, top ranking sources in the army have told Headlines Today.

"Pakistan is preparing for a summer of terror in Jammu and Kashmir. In 2014 Pakistan will have a surplus of mujahideen (terrorists) from Afghanistan after the US draw down. Pakistan army and terrorists appear to be dumping weapons in secret hideouts in higher reaches of Shamshabari and Pir Panjal ranges now to be retrieved later," sources added.

And that is not all. Digging equipment has been recovered in the Uri-Baramulla hideout of terrorists. Similar digging equipment was recovered from Mendher earlier and intercepts indicate terrorists are trying to dig tunnels from both sides to overcome the anti-infiltration obstacle system or the fence that the army has put in place.

Terrorists have tried to use tunnels along the large number of nullahs and rivulets that flow in the region. It is not humanly possible to lay and ambush at every nullah. Also the folds in the mountains help hide terrorists. In this area, the terrorists are also either using natural caves or digging small fox holes to hide from security forces or hide weapons. That appears to have been the modus operandi even in the Keran sector.

To add to this, Pakistan army has repeatedly opened fire at advancing Indian army troops from at least three posts - both direct and indirect (artillery) fire. Commanders on ground have now been authorized to retaliate in kind, as they deem fit.

"It is taking troops on ground so much time to clear the area only because of the lay of the land. Terrorists could be hiding inside these cave like structures. We are moving cautiously. Any cave - we lob a grenade, fire a burst and then check. This also led to recovery of weapons and other war like stores," sources in the the Udhampur based Northern Command told Headlines Today

"The recent recoveries in Gujjardar and in Fateh Gali - including rockets, pistols, AK-47 rifles, large quantities of assorted ammunition, grenades and other war like stores are all indicators of the bigger game plan. The terrorists, intercepts indicate, are dumping weapons to be used later. They word is then communicated to local terrorists to reach these secret hide outs, retrieve the weapons and stock them in pre determined locations to be used later," sources added.
